Cleaning vintage rayon?

I wore my new 1940s wrap dress today, and something got onto it! There were white marks that some how appeared, I got most of it off with water, but it's still faintly there. Any suggestions?

What sort of rayon is it Rose? Crepe needs to be dry cleaned, but you can usually spot clean it safely, depending on what the stain is.

I don't recommend baby wipes for older fabrics as they're full of chemicals that might have a long term effect, eg, remove dye, or create a mark. It's up to you - I happily use them on post '50s garments, just not the older ones.

I'm not quite sure.. I think it's crepe, so I may have to take it to a dry cleaners. I'll have to find a good one in the city..

A lot of '40s dresses are rayon crepe but if it's late '40s it could be faille perhaps? You're welcome to share a photo and we can help identify it.

Whichever weave it is, I encourage you to continue with the spot cleaning as a dry clean may not budge it.

Here is a picture of the dress, I believe it is late 1940s, and a picture of the stain. I've contacted the costume design department at the University here, they should have a good idea to :)

I just heard back from the costume design department and it was recommended for me to use Dryel, so that I don't have to actually wash the fabric. Makes sense to me.
