Clear nylon thread - when first commonly used

I have a mini dress that is stitched in that clear nylon thread that looks a little like fishing wire. It has a back metal zip and is pattern and fabric wise very 60s, but can't help wondering if it is made up from old fabric, zip, buttons and pattern but more recently constructed.

So would that thread have been used in the 60s?

Here's the dress:

Shall try to list when I get back from the firework display I am just heading off to, so all help gratefully received!

Very cute, Harriet! I only have 70s pieces with that kind of thread, but I did read that nylon thread was introduced in the 40s. Whether or not, it was the clear stuff is unclear (no pun intended).

Harriet, I thought I had posted here this morning. I found out that nylon invisible thread was popular during the 60s and 70s because it would match almost any type of facbric..especially knits with the give.

Here is the link. It is in the 5th paragraph under Background.

I am thinking 60s on yours.

Nylon thread was available in the mid- to late 1950s but was poor quality and tended to cut fabric during sewing. As best I can remember, around 1962-63 there was a vast improvement in nylon. I want to say Talon was first to market the improved thread but that's only a guesstimate.
