Hi All,
The only Dynasty labels in the resource are 60s and I'm pretty sure this set is a 60s....sorry about photos quality....Wondering if I should submit this for the label resource? The little jacket has a better label without a rust stain. There's a note in the resource that says Dynasty gave department stores in the States exclusive rights for 6 months before they sold these designs direct to customers in Hong Kong....so this set would have been manufactured in HK by Dynasty but sold by Lord and Taylor in the states?

Also, the jacket is lined but the dress is not....do you think the linings been removed?

Lauren

I think it's early 1960s. A lot of beautiful things were made in Hong Kong then, sold here. There was some amazing work being done there and then sold in our department stores. Labor was plentiful. Think beaded sweaters, tailored suits, delicate sweaters... lots of embroidered things... Not sure about the dress lining, there or not... seems like a Lord & Taylor piece WOULD be lined.

Does it appear like the lining was removed, to you?

Dynasty was founded in 1953 by Bud Berman, a New York importer/manufacturer as a way to get around tariffs of Chinese exports. So yes, it was an American parent company that many US stores had a 6 month leads on carrying. Everything was made in China and exported around the world as Chinese-made good. It was sold widely in Canada. The label was at its peak in the 1960s. Not sure when it closed, but I think it was some time in the 1970s.

Agree with an early '60s date. The dress wouldn't have been lined: the facings show they were all that was there and the wearer would have worn a slip. The jacket would be lined because it's good quality and you'd see the lining as it was put on and off. Lovely ensemble set.

I agree with Nicole. Sometimes these two-piece sets don't have linings on the dresses. Lord & Taylor always had the nicest dress department of the better department stores, even into the 90s there was a wide selection -- not just "trendy" stuff. I was sad when ours closed.
