Confused on these coats.

Can't make up my mind on dates.

The first one reminds me of 60s - the colour of the green, the style with the mink trim and the content label - even the material of lining is like the older coats and, save for the cashmere/wool label there is no other content label. But it has shoulder pads under the lining and the maker's label looks newer so then I think 80s. :help:

The second one I just can't make up my mind between 70s and 80s. One minute I'm definite 80s and the next... well you know. What do you think?
I also did a quick search of 80s tweeds on ebay and the use of Avant Garde as KW is rampant - especially since most don't look Avant Garde to me. Maybe I need a lesson in AG :scratchchin:

THANKS!

What do the pads in the green coat feel like? To me the coat looks 80s, and I would reach immediately for the shoulder pads if in person.

The tweed also makes me think 80s.

Avant Garde? What have I missed?!

Oh you clever woman! Spongy. I don't know why I feel something about 70s on the second - I think it's the closeness of the db buttons - reminds me of 70s.

Grazie bella!

And the woven leather buttons (or faux leather -- can't tell) also look 70s. But the silhouette seems unusual for the 70s. Hrmmm ...

I love that pointed back flap thingie.

Nice coats, Deborah! The green looks early 80s to me--not only the shoulder pads, but the whole line of the shoulder and armholes/sleeves.

The tweed is confusing, as the buttons, back cape thingy, and mandarin-like collar all look 70s. (on the shoulders in front, is that the front of the back flap, or shoulder epaulets?). But the looseness of the silhouette, big dolman sleeves, and general look appear quite 80s. Or, could it be an early 90s coat as inspired by the 70s??? I dunno.....

They look like epaulets, but it's actually part of the triangular flap - it does have that Sherlock thing going on, doesn't it? The content label is older (wish I knew who made it!) so I'm going to go with 70s.

Mmmmm, now should I call it Avant Garde? :D

Thanks so much, ladies!

Both are YUMMY! Green 80's Snow Bunny, the Tweed is tuff.
Looks 80's to me also. 80's designs loved the 40's look.
You have a little swing, a little spy. Tons of Style & Detail!

Sorry I missed your response yesterday, Carrie - I musta been writing my response when you posted. There are no shoulder pads and no sign as there ever having been any. The more I feel it and look at it, the more I feel confident on 70s.

Thanks KK - you've given me more useful KWs.

Thanks again all!
