Cool 60\'s Fashion Illustrations by Tod Daz

I love fashion illustrations but in particular those by Tod Daz from the 1960's. I've written about him before but recently came across some more super illustrations from this amazing artist and draughtsman. These were completed while on a visit to Rome. In his article, Tod sketches a variety of outfits including Valentino of which he writes:

"VALENTINO - The most talked-of designer in Italy. Black, sage green and brown were his colours; young, flat-topped and small-waisted his lines; smooth, flared skirts his message".

All the garments shown below - except the evening suit, were available from Debenham and Freebody.

Slim coat in smooth black wool, cut like a coat-dress with buttons only on the skirt. Top wraps over, has a tie belt tipped with gilded V's. Worn with a silver fox hat and black patterned stockings.

A princess line dress in black velvet with lace inserts. Worn with sheer black stockings embroidered with black roses.

Gently-shaped wool coat, the cut emphasised by double curved seaming. With a silver fox hat, and plain stockings.

You're very welcome. :)

I've always been quite envious of people who sketch with such flare. These illustrations are real 'works of art' in my book.

They're really cool! Thanks for sharing. You know my twin sister, Alison, studied fashion design at college and was such a natural. She could sketch an outfit in a matter of minutes and make something marvellous out of a potato sack! We're supposed to be identical twins but I guess that doesn't 'wash' when it comes to artistic ability. Drat! :icon_dante:

Thanks Louise! I'd forgotten that you have an identical twin sister. Is she still doing fashion? You're artistic too!

You're too kind. :)

No, Alison left fashion behind and became a mum of two. Several years on, she now has a career in beauty therapy, but specifically in permanent (or semi-permanent) makeup which she loves! She's worked with a lot of people who have lost eyebrows and eyelashes due to illness and so she finds it very rewarding.

Alison's recently been working with burlesque artist, Anna Fur Laxis. And, she's just finished a new website called Make Me a Pin-Up. Anna has been teaching Alison some 'tricks of the trade'. No! Not burlesque dancing (perish the thought) but all her fancy makeup techniques and hair styles etc. Anna's just returned from a week dancing at the Moulin Rouge no less. :icon_dante:

BTW! Alison's other website is connected to her beauty and semi-permanent makeup business Alison McMath Beauty.

Oh yes, and when she's not doing all that, she has several large motorcycles including a Ducati and a Kawasaki something or other!!!! She's raised lots of money for charities and has ridden her motor bike from one end of the UK to the other . . .

Good grief - she's a busy girl! I feel quite exhausted!

:headbang:

Alison tells me that Anna is such a lovely girl. They've met a few times now and Alison's just 'bowled over' by her professionalism. She's a real star apparently! I've recently seen a photo of Anna alongside Dita von teese. I think I prefer Anna. :)

Anna won me over immediately!

And you and your sister are so pretty. Which country has the most twins? Seems there are many, in Britain.
Okay, just found the answer, sort of. It's the Yoruba people, of West Africa:
"The Yoruba have the highest rate of twinning in the world, at 45 twins per 1,000 live births,[3][4][5] possibly because of high consumption of a specific type of yam containing a natural phytoestrogen which may stimulate the ovaries to release an egg from each side."
from the wiki

Excellent! I think Alison and I were a fluke of nature. There's no other twins in our family - that I know of. However, there were three sets of twins in my year at high school. :)
