Hi,

I was gifted these two furs from my gran.

How would I go about describing the fox colour?

Is the stole mink or squirrel? Or something completely different?

Thank you for all or any help.

Hi, The Fox pelt collar looks like brown and silver cross fox. The stole is Ermine.

Aaaaa ok! Ermine! Thank you.

I had been having a look through other fur posts and you seem so knowledgeable so thank you so much for your time Caryn!

My grandad has memories of him shooting said fox and having him made into that pelt but I'm taking it that that's a bit far fetched? Haha! We live in Scotland.

I was wondering if I could trouble you for one more? This coat throws me! I have a few rabbit furs so used to the feel of them but this seems a bit thicker?
It is almost as if it has two layers like a fluffy under and then those fine hairs I hope I have managed to capture over the top.

Thank you very much again.

You are most welcome anytime Susan. I'm always happy to help.

Your granddad could have could have hunted and trapped the fox pelt you posted, then had the hide cleaned, tanned, and made into a wearable piece.

The fur of the coat you posted photos of is Muskrat dyed to look like Mahogany Mink. Muskrats have two layers of fur; a shorter underlayer and a top coat or guardhair which is longer. Muskrat is often dyed as well.
