Could it possibly be 40s?!?!

Hi all- sorry for the frequent posting as of late! The vintage gods have certainly been smiling upon me. After doing lots of research I THINK this dress is from the 40s or maybe early 50s but I know for sure that I have never handled anything older than the mid 50s so I just wanted to check with ya'll for confirmation (so I can have some confidence in my listing and make sure I have hallucinated it). I found it in the most unlikely of places so I'm just sort of all confused about it! Let me know if there is more info I can provide for better IDing!
Thanks again for all of your lovely and generous help!

sorry for the low light photos!

Zips up the side with a metal zip:

Has some strange sleeves (do these have a name)? And lots of smocking

smocking at the waist:

All pinked seams, this tag is at the bottom of the zip:

Would this be rayon crepe? Its has a silky feel but I don't think its silk. I did a burn test but just ended up more confused than when I started!
Thanks a million!!
xoxo,
Megan

Lovely! And I agree with 40s. Can't see the detail too well on the sleeves; from what I can see, they look almost like a ruched cap sleeve, though a bit longer than a modern cap sleeve for sure.

Yes, I do think ruched cap sleeves are correct. They are drapey underneath (no seam), kind of like dolman sleeves, but are cap sleeves. I'll try to get a better photo in the daylight!

Wow! I can hardly believe it. I'm almost ashamed to tell ya'll that I got this at the local thrift store clearance center (priced at $1.10 per pound of clothing) and its actually in really good shape. I guess all those hours I spend reading past forum posts really paid off, otherwise I might not have notice the metal side zip and the detailed construction that would have never happened in this decade!

Nice find! I love the print and ruching. I dont think it is a crepe, as the texture appears silky, smooth, but highly likely it is rayon.
