I don't know why but it made me instantly think of the movie High Society... which is strange as I can't recall anyone wearing anything like this in the movie.

I could deffinately see various members of the ratpack striding around pool-side in something like this on their way to get another drink... so deffinately resort wear, and it's very stylish. I'd say late 50s, early 60s.

I was thinking early 60s too....
I would call it a cardigan even though its not entirely knit. Looks Italian, like from some resort beach town in a 1964 movie...

Giancarlo Gianini zipping through Rome on a Vespa , ca 1961.

Or

Oh I like that I can do a whole story on that one.

Off to look up what a Vespa is! :P

Ooooh yes, how divine, breezing through Rome on a scooter in the early 60s on the way to a romantic dinner in a moonlit piazza with a girl clinging to the white fabric of the top with one hand and trying to hold her headscarf on with the other. ...I think a guy with such a stylish outfit would be more likely to be riding a Lambretta than a Vespa... but that's just cos I'm a mod snob... girls ride Vespas. <giggle>

thanks Took a bit from all the ideas for a title

60's Vintage Resort Jetsetter Cardigan Cotton Top

And came up with a story to go with it:

The wind was wiping at the scarf tied around her hair as they took off in the little sports convertible. She leaned over the shifter and laid her head on his shoulder while running her fingertips down the knit edging to the buttons. As she popped the buttons open one by one he kissed her forhead. Keeping his eyes on the road he could still feel her hands as they ran over the pinwhale fabric.........
.............. The characters in this story are fictitous

Well how the heck can he kiss her if he is driving?

Must not be paying attention to the road!

Reminds me of a couple in a pick up truck we were behind once. I said to myself "If they are both in the middle...who in the heck is driving???"
