Cowgirls, reply please - Stetson hat ?

This is NOT vintage, but I wondered if it is a certain style other than being a “cowboy hat.” The brim is smaller than usual I think (three inches) and what is with the removeable chin strap? I was wondering if it’s for a woman although it is a large size.

DH says this is a Cavalry hat. The hole in front is for attaching a military insignia.

Oh - Your DH is good. That makes a lot of sense. Now I have to figure out why I can't find anything but dark colored felt models of cavalry hats. This is the warm weather model? Thanks!
