Crime against fashion?

That ordinance won't last long.

Are they going to arrest women whose thongs show when they stoop down? Bra straps that show under tank tops?

Or the classic guy whose jeans ride too low and we see the dreaded tuckus crack?

I can only hope!

Good Grief! Is that for real? What is wrong with those people. Girls can show off their belly buttons, their cleavage and even their entire butts on the beach as long as there is a string running up the middle but boys can't show a little boxer short???

Personally I think the look is rather comical and I have no idea why someone would want to spend every waking hour having to hitch up their drawers... but they seem to like it.

A town can't legislate fashion for G-d sake this is America land of the free. (If you could I would have run for office a long time ago)

There's a huge movement in America to impose dress codes and even uniforms on teenagers... I truly believe the USA hates and fears their young. Or maybe it's just envy.....

In the mid 90s my boyfriend at the time would probably have been in trouble, as he favoured a very low slung jean. We'd stopped at a patisserie on the way into town, and nearly missed the bus.

Yes, you've guessed it - we ran, I got on, turned back with the bus moving away to see him clutching his (now just above knee height) jeans waistband in one hand and a bag of pain au chocolat in the other. Not very hip hop..

You may have a point there. I can't speak for the rest of my country but in my town there is definate anti youth sentiment. The town actually voted to stop funding buses for the middle and high school kids. Mind you many of these kids have to walk 2-3 miles, early in the morning with little light, no sidewalks in New England. They tried to ban skateboards in the whole town even on private property. There are virtually no activities for teenagers available except for the most traditional sports. No money they say. We are a town of over 10,000. YET they keep coming up with money to fund program after program for senior citizens (they vote).

I think it has a lot to do with envy and control.

Great story, Harriet!
I've noticed several young men walking around town, with nothing holding up their outter britches but their winkies and hope. How comfortable could it be, having to hike every few steps? I know I won't wear shorts if they ride up, I assume I look just as dumb with them wonky and yanking at them as these guys do.

This sort of thing isn't new, remember. Women in pants used to be heavily frowned upon.
