Hi there,

I have a lovely Vintage Louis Feraud dress that is in need or some attention. Its probably the nicest 60's dress I have but it has a small tear in the sleeve and couple of small holes on the back and on the trim at the front. I was wondering if anyone has any idea how this could be reapired and what kind of condition you would say this dress is in? I havn't had it cleaned yet but I love this dress and would appreciate any input please.

Thanks

( pictures are probably rather large sorry for that)

Wonderful dress!

I'm afraid your holes are a job for a professional. I'm fairly good at reweaving, but there is no way I could make that large repair.

Condition? Maybe fair. As a collector, I might be willing to overlook the holes, but a wearer would not.

It's such a shame as this is a stunning dress!

feraud are always such a good quality and standard, l rue the day l sold the few l had.....a collector would by feruad in that condiiton for acolletcion, can be displayed despite the damage. as its a classic example of the period. oh and french..yumm

Try a professional reweaver - your local dry cleaners may be able to recommend someone. It' s not cheap, but if you love the dress it may be worthwhile

If it were a Leslie Fay/Sears/homesew job, I'd say to remove the sleeves, put a hidden bind inside and have that be that (with disclosure, of course). It's the collectability that puts the kink in the chain. Yeah, search for a re-weaver, it may be worth the price if the dress is desireable, as it is certainly cute.
