What do you call the sleeves on this?? Whats the hole in the middle of the sleeves to the dress itself. And the sides of the bottom are sewn down leaving a lot of extra fabric on the sides That flaps open What would that treatment be.

Just to show you:

This one is handpainted. I don't know if its vintage

This top has a label The Dashiki

A bell sleeve but not...a batwing sleeve? the top one almost reminds me of a sleeve you would see on a kimono or other asian garment.

I will have to do my research!

The top one, are the sleeves actually attached to the skirt of the dashiki?? Freaky Dashiki!! Otherwise, I would also go with Kimono sleeves.

That's really trippy!!

Cheers,

Maureen

They are attached the fabric runs the length of the dress but there is seams making the dress area narrower I think I am going to have to lay it out and photo the sides.

Label on the black one

The blue one shown fully laid out showing where the seams are

Pauline, I have had many dashiki dresses with that same cut. They are tricky as they look huge, but when you measure from the actual seam, they are slimmer in fit.

This one has a 40 inch waist and I think I measured 23 across the underarms.
