Date and fabric help

Hello, me again!

I need date help and fabric help with this dress.... I am thinking 30s on this but when in the 30s? it does seem a little short for 30s but has not been altered. It is a 2 piece suit.

Also the fabric... I have quite a bt witt this kind of knit. Is is a wool blend? It has a little stretch to it and feels rayonish? not cotton or silk... SO i was kinda stuck between rayon and wool as I have learned recently both can take on many different apperances. Thank you... I have provided an extreeme close up of the knit.

Pretty! Fabric looks like a crepe weave, and you're right that that doesn't tell you fiber content. Can you snip a bit from the seam allowance for a burn test? Wool is self extinguishing and smells like burning hair. Rayon keeps burning and smells less pungent.

BTW, if it's rayon crepe, do not wash it and be careful even with spot cleaning - it's notorious for shrinking.
 
I'm going to date this one as a mid to late '30s dinner dress - the fabric looks like wool crepe, perhaps with a bit of rayon so I'm curious about your burn test result.

You can see some Victorian influence in the bodice: very nice!

OK so it is rayon entirely... no wool burn to it at all, hardly any smell. white smoke, almost white ash that blew away on its own, all fabric burned up and I liked the smell,, not wool.... I am suprised :-(
