Date and other Help 1940\'s? dress.

Hello again...OK..trying to get the older stuff out and gone...this dress I was thinking 1940's. I am not sure. The structure of the dress is awesome...the back has a metal talon zipper..he fabric is a crepe rayon? not sure...the collar is backwards there are flaps (peplum?) that try to make the dress look like two pieces and stitching that gives roman blind kinda slouch pleats around the waist..there are fancy stitching at the back under the zipper and on the shoulders...I would like to know if there are certain names for that kind of work...if that is possible. The sleeves have a sewn in v of fabric on each sleeve...I don't think this is hand made but I cant find any labels...here are some pictures.

i agree 40s and as far as a lable have you checked in the skirt itself.. look in under the material in the seams... sometimes they are very thin and sewn under the material so you cant see them upon a general inspecition

the gathered type of stitching is called rouching and thats all i can offer for now lol

Agree on '40s, it looks like rayon but not crepe - the sort of silky rayon they used often used for prints in the '40s. I think a panel has been added into the sleeve to make it wider.

This looks mid Forties, possibly post-war and probably home-made. A good example of peplums which were a very fashionable detail. Nicole is right this is not crepe and yes the V fabric insert increases the width of the sleeve to accommodate the arm so the dress has been altered. The gathered stitching is known as shirring.
