Date check on wedding dress!

Everything is saying to me that this wedding dress is a 40's- 50's cusper- full skirt of the 50's but the angular neckline and heart shape of the bodice of the 40's.

am I right or WAAAAY off? :)

THe bodice looks late 40s - early 50s to me but the length of skirt seems too short. It might have been used by another bride, like a sister or friend, a few years later and was chopped.

It has a metal zipper on the left side and a little zipper at each wrist cuff.

It's hard to say whether the skirt has been shortened or not as the hem is bound on the inside with rayon hem tape but it would make sense. The thread at the hem is the same color as the rest of the dress though.

I had exactly the same reaction as Jonathan--that the bodice looks very late 40-ish, but the skirt looks as if it must have been shortened.... If it were hemmed up later, it probably was done by a professional bridal seamstress who would've made the alteration appear as near to original as possible.

I think that is what was making me doubt the dating of my dress as the top looked 40's but the skirt looked 50's.

You guys are probably right, it was probably worn later on in the 50's by a sister or some other close friend or family member and updated slightly. :)
