This is an unusual brooch...small crystals/rhinestones/faux pearls with a cameo in the middle of it. The cameo is a vintage plastic as far as I can tell. It was difficult for all of the details on the face to show up on the scanner, but she has curls piled up on her head, slightly cascading gown and has what looks like a grecian goddess gown or a cape fastened with a clip on her shoulder.

Any date? Was from a collection that ranged from the late 20s-1983ish . I am guessing second half of those dates, but really am not sure....

Chris

oh BTW, the girl isn't crooked, its just the way it lays on the scanner!

I'm guessing 60s/70s? What with the big revival aspect of these decades, cameos were very popular and the stones somehow don't look dense enough to be 50s. I'm guessing wildly though!! :)

well....that is a good guess and you are probably right... I have these ornate earrings/necklace set with clear glass cameos in them too that i was pretty sure were 60ish. (as everything i seem to get is).

I was told that the backing can be a good clue as to age too...but that gives me no clue because its a subject i am clueless about...

That is very nice.

Re Cameos. I was in my friends wedding in the early 70s and she gave each bridesmaid a cameo brooch to wear. Wonder where that thing is?

I wondered if the coloured stones followed the Victorian fashion of spelling out a message - on the lines of Diamond Emerald Amethyst Ruby - but I can't make out exactly what they are in your brooch. Very attractive piece too! :)

there's a stone that looks like an aquamarine too...but i don't know about the yellow and the peachy one. i never knew that margaret. I went ahead and launched it sunday because i wanted to get another auction going. I have a lot of things to work on today...a few really cool things i hope to get up. back to work...
