I'm thinking teak? Makes me think of Danish Modern pieces....

No markings, strung onto clear plastic. 60s? 80s? Its really quite large and very striking! Any help would be appreciated....thanks!

hmmmm. yep, its the clasp that has me thinking older than 80s, though since I've not handled a lot of jewelry from the 80s I couldnt rule it out. but the clasp, which is almost a carved plastic, looks "older" in that way that things do.

its pretty long, too....38".

Lovely!!!

1970s? I have seen the 70s disc styled in teak. Incredible looking!!! I am sure someone with an expert eye will come along.

hmmm. the plastic thread (clear, at any rate, could be nylon?) is embedded into the clasps so if it was restrung they added the clasps......

its hard to see it as the wood discs are SO tightly strung!

Ang, I'm piggybacking a piece from my jewel box...with a very similar clasp AND it's strung on flexible plastic/nylon?, clearly transparent; you can see the knots in the cut out part of the clasp. Mine also looks handcrafted--every bead is different--and it looks like amber or amber and jet. I've never had it tested and am clueless as to date.

I'm going to say 80s on both pieces. Ang, yours looks like it's been re-strung with a different, amber clasp. It does look like teak beads but with the color variation I'm not so sure. Maryalice's necklace is African amber & blackwood, and may even be 90s.
