Hi, all. I love the bias cut of the skirt and the sheer, polka-dot blouse on this set! I assumed it was early 40s when I picked it up, but now I'm obsessing on the side-snap closures on the skirt, snap closures beneath the decorative buttons on the blouse, the 'puff'-topped sleeves on the blouse, and the length of the skirt perhaps being too long for war time. Raven is 5' 9" tall.

...no shoulder pads and the shoulders are rounded. What do you think?

...apologies for Raven's twisted-hip skewing of the skirt and thanks!

:hiya: Thanks, Marie. I hadn't been able to get a grasp on the lapels and the almost-straight cut of the jacket. You're right; it IS cut like a peacoat! Add another nugget to the war-time weight.

The jacket cut with that collar, the skirt cut and length and the shoulder fit all look Mid to late 1935 - 38. Polka dots were popular in the 30s too.

It looks like a Ginger Rogers outfit in her 30s films - Bachelor Mother, (1938) for example

Snap closures help date a dress, but they were still used from the 20s into the 40s, so it 's by no means a hard and fast rule.

Hi Steph,

I'm with Hollis....several of my later 30s mags show similar suits.

(however, the lapels would've thrown me too, as they look almost 70s)

this looks to be in wonderful condition! Great find

Awesome; thank you!

No; it doesn't have any labels, but it's well-crafted and finished enough that it would have to have been done by someone very skilled if it were a dressmaker's affair.

Thank you for the details on the jacket and Ginger Rogers makes perfect sense!
