I am no help here on dating this. I would say late 40's or 50's.Really just wanted to say I love the jacket and think the applique on the back is exceptionally nice. You should do really well with this!

They did these jackets in the 40's into the 50's... They are very collectable.... I used to have one like it.....

This jacket seems to have done well for the tourist trade! It definitely has a 40s look (a bit like a Pendleton 49er jacket), but I think it probably was more commonly 50s.

Here's the one I sold not too long ago, and notice how similar:

These really do attract bidders...good luck with yours!!

Also, McCall had a pattern for these jackets in the late '40s and in the '50s. A while back I had a customer looking for one because she wanted to recreate a jacket her mother wore.

Thanks everyone, I'll go with 50's. I love the contrast between the white and the appliqué on yours Maggie, its very striking and indeed very similar detail on the back! These must have been very popular in their day. Thanks again :)

they really were very popular in the late 40's too...doesn't hurt for you to list them cusp-like, as there are some who prefer 40's to 50's, and we'd hate to see you miss a hot market!! great jacket!!

Yes I was wondering that myself, I have no idea how it came to find itself in Scotland. Wish I did know though! I’m sure it's quite a story.

Thanks Mary, I’ve taken your advice and put 40's in there too, hopefully to attract those 40's buyers  thanks for all the help
