nicely made jacket, slub linen silk blend? body lined in acetate, handfinished seams to outer jacket with bias tape at hem. metal covered buttons.
thought 60's at first glance, but the sleeves are satin lined, and where they 2 fabrics are joined internally at the armhole the seams are machined and overlocked/serged and there is just something about it which made me think actually it might be modern - i.e. 80's/ 90's. also the way the button loops are... also never heard of the label. anyone?
but i'm not sure. it's a nice jacket... help!

(sorry, am rushing as have just got 3 hour reprieve from small child to finish listings! :D )

paper tag looks older? (sorry super blurry)

thank you!

Harriet, I'm rushing right now too, so I take the risk of being completely unhelpful (wouldn't be the first time)!

I can't find anything about de Léon, but I would agree the jacket appears to date from the 60s. Do you think the tag's 16 1/2 is the size? I couldn't quickly conjour up the history of half sizes, but they haven't been available for awhile.

Maybe someone else can pick up the ball from there.

Hi Harriet -

My first thought was 60's too - but the jacket looks a little long for the 60's, & so not quite as boxy as I tend to think of jackets from that era - so my second thought is 80's.

Also, I think half-sizes used to be used in this country for what are now called plus sizes -- ? Not sure how to check on that, but I bet someone here can say if I'm right or wrong. So maybe the jacket is 80's doing 60's. The only detail that makes me wonder if it's actually 60's is the typograpy/font of the "16 1/2" - it looks *vintage*

that makes sense caroline - it is a lrger size, with approx a 40" chest (but narrow back). i think it appears longer on the manni as it drapes at the front due to the extra chestage... she has very little!
i tried it on and it is a lot boxier on me. i've gone for 60's with the label style, but will change it if anyone recommends i ought to!

Harriet, I think it's 60s, too.... I believe half sizes were prevalent from the late 50s into the 60s. I don't know about earlier, because I don't get much in that's older than early 50s, but I've had several dresses from that late 50s into late 60s era that were half sizes. The size label, particularly the font & overall style of the numbers, as well as the style of the maker's label, also look 60s to me. Though I remember the 70s well (albeit thru a fog), I don't remember half sizing being as as widespread, and I was still in junior sizing then (alas, for the figure I had back then, I would kill). My mom would have been wearing them then, not me, but seems to me her half-sized clothing was more abundant in the 60s. HTH!
