50's?? I found this going thru one of my grandmother's cedar chests. Looking for pics of her in it, haven't found any yet  Weird/fugly brown, yellow, black & white print on cotton? no stretch, fully lined in white, elastic legs on lining only, boned bodice, foldover flaps @ bust top, 1 button halters strap (looks like it might have originally had 2), smocked elastic sides, painted white metal zip @ certerback. If ya need any more pics, just let me know.

Many thanks in advance!!!!! Holly

Thanks sara & joules!! it IS amazingly sturdy!! Do ya suppose my kids would laugh me off the beach, if I wore it on vacation in a few weeks??:singing:

Re-checked the label resource, very similar labels for 40's & 50's, More votes, please, in case I decide to list it.

i'd say early 50's. is the button one of those apple sauce colored ones? those were used on earlier suits.
i love it, what are the measurements?

hi eel, thanks for the vote! the button is a pearly, yellowy tinged color, so I'd say yes to the applesauce color. Wearable size, Nanny was a curvy girl! Bust - 37" at rest to 42"++ minimum of a C cup, and better suited to a D, I'd say, Waist - 32.5" to 36" (elastic smocking, so might go a bit bigger, I didn't want to stress the elastic too much), Hips - 46", length from underarm is 23 1/4", and gusset is 4" wide. I'm dying to try it on, I'm just afraid if I do, I'll want to keep it:scratchchin:

Wow, I love that! It looks so wearable today, I definitely would. The greenery behind it makes it harder to distinguish shape though, I would do it on a different bg if you decide to sell it. What a great suit!

It has a longish boyshorts type bottom shape, it won't fit on the dress form, but since i'll likely sell it, i'll redo the pics before I list it anywhere.

It's also starting to grow on me too, at first the print, with the brown & yellow, did NOT speak to me at all. I'm a pink & green, floral, girly frou, frou type, so don't truly think I'd actually ever wear it. But...I tried it on, and it fits, very well & is VERY flattering, especially compared to anything modern. although the younger generation didn't have much appreciation for it , 19 yrold son gave it 2 thumbs down, 8yrold daughter loved it(she wore a pink & white modified lace cage 60's shift to her last music program @ school, fabulous of course), 13yrold rolled her eyes & wandered away, shaking her head, which always makes my day!:nana:

Hi Holly,

You suit is from the 50's. Here's a Jantzen ad for thier Cabana Suits and the print looks very similar to yours. And if you don't want to keep it you can always send it my way! :beach:

Thanks Carrie! Looove that ad! Now I'm just ridiculously torn about keeping it (I KNEW not to try it on, but did it anyway) Will it tolerate ocean/pool water at this point? Does sunscreen do weird things to the fabric/dye?? Just wondering:puzzled:

thanks again, everyone!

Holly
