Dates/Opinions on Man\'s Sweater?

I found this nice (I think) sweater and my instinct tells me it is older, but how old? There are no tags of any kind. It is a very tight knit (reminds me of the fine socks my mother used to knit) and has kind of an art deco design with some raised work here and there.

The last photo shows sweater inside out. It’s definitely vintage and definitely quality. Could it be late 40’s? (never hurts to try) ;)

for some reason, the image of Fred Astaire in a sweater similar to this, with it almost tucked into large baggy-ish pants with a collared shirt underneath and neat 2-tone shoes comes to mind...

i'm off to work, but 40's sounds viable to me, especially with that smooth knit you say...will try to help look for more evidence later...

I'm not very good with menswear, but I'm getting more of a 50's vibe from this. I don't know quite "why," but I am--maybe early to mid 50s? I seem to remember seeing photos of my dad & his brothers (6 boys) in sweaters like this, probably early 50s, and my dad having a few like this when I was a kid--which would be mid to late 50s (though he probably would've kept his sweaters for years & years).

And it IS a fabulous sweater, Amanda! I see $$$ here!

been giving more thought, and the 40's ones usually have a wider ribbed waist band, i think Anne may be more correct that it is later.

also just noticed the dropped armseyes, that would make it even later...
