I cannot stress this point enough. I have ironed polyester blend chiffon using a towel and a cool setting but steam is your best friend in terms of vintage clothing.
Thank you so much Does chiffon get water stains if water from a steamer splashes on it? I have a little steamer but sometimes it spits water and I'm afraid to use it! Do you think it would be wise to invest in a really good steamer to avoid this issue?
i would, too, absolutely, but you have to be very careful not to STRETCH it while you're steaming it.
if your steamer spits, that's just water, so (theoretically) it should just dry (so long as the spitting doesn't SOAK the fabric) ...however, if you can afford to invest in a better one, it would be a good idea for you (and your garments).
Depending on what the steamer you use is like you could also put a nylon stocking around the head of it, tied tightly. This can prevent some spitting.
Also, it may be wise to empty the remaining water in your steamer after use (wait till it cools down).
I would definitely steam the dress you have shown and not iron.
Steam, yes. I have a nice steamer from Overstock that works great, was reasonable, too. I'll look up the name when I get home from my little vacation. Also think it looks late 60s.
Sorry to take so long. I have the Jiffy J-2000 from Overstock. It's $175 now. I don't remember paying that much but I always use a coupon with them and I do love it. There is a pressing board available to mount (I'm not sure where to buy that) but I just stand my ironing board against the wall. However, you can just steam away without a board, too! Saves so much $ on dry cleaning and it's so fun to bring back the beauty of your clothing!
