Dating a black sweater with unusual blue sequin design

Hi~

I'm wondering if this sweater could be older than 40s? It has a short back neck zipper and a long side zipper (both metal). I couldn't make out the name. It has a black grosgrain ribbon at the inside waist to nip it in a bit and the fabric is a nubby wool. The blue sequin design is separated by black sequins and the bottom design looks like a spade. I don't know what the other one is supposed to be. There is no tag.

Many thanks in advance for your help: )

Kim

The other symbol is a flaming grenade, such as used on many different military grenadiers badges.
It may help to know where it came from, and the zip makers, to narrow down what/where the motif is about.

Thank you both for your replies! Melanie - I would never have known that this was a flaming grenade symbol. After reading your reply, I found something that said "Another item was an embroidered playing card symbol - a spade for the 1st Battery."

I had a younger pair of eyes look at the zipper and they saw the word Talon with a large V at the center. The long side zipper just has some numbers. The two string belt loops tell me that it was indeed part of a set (what a handsome one it would have been: ) Still not positive about the date...

I only recognise the symbol because I have some 1950s men's woolwork slippers with it on them.
Can you show the top laid flat so the shape can be seen better? does it have any shoulder pads? Do the sleeves have any fastenings at the wrists? Can you show a close close up of the sequins so we can see the type used.

Hi~

There are no shoulder pads and nothing at the wrists. Here are a couple of photos...

Thank you!

The more fitted shape suggests 1950s to me. The sequin motif goes much closer to the armhole seam than I'd expect, can you tell from the seam inside if it has been altered? It might have been changed from a different shape, or size. If you wanted to narrow the shoulders for example after taking the overall size of the garment down, you might have to move the sleeves in by re-cutting the armholes. This might also mean if it previously had shoulder pads they were lost at this point.

Melanie - it does not look like it was ever altered. Thank you for your help!

MS - thank you! I saw the photo of the zipper. It's like being a super sleuth:)
