Dating a blouse, 1930s..?

Hi Forum,

I bought this recently from ebay, I believe listed as 'old shirt' or something similarly glamorous, and was thinking it to be from around the '30s from the sweet sleeves and neckline- it is incredibly tiny, no more than a 30" chest and 16" in length from mid shoulder, could it be any earlier? When ladies were teensy ;)

Bound in silk, the body fabric feels like silk also, with iridescence and dotted weave.. Popper fastening.

It's so sweet, how I'll ever find someone slim enough for it though...

Can you show photos of the opening hem and bottom hem please? Something about the shape suggests to me this didn't start of life as a blouse. I was going to say anyway, as the fastening overlaps, the front could probably be let out both sides and sewn together to increase it a couple of sizes.

I agree with Melanie, I think this is an altered piece.

Okay - I think it started as a late '40s to early '50s childs party dress and has been shortened. The sleeves may have been updated too, and the neckline: the binding doesn't look original but if you look at the stitching and compare the thread to the rest of the garment it will help.

Try lining up the side seams and see if the poppers meet: if there is a gap, it could be the opening is an update too. If that's the case, it might not be a childs, it could be for a woman - but the current size is too small, even for a vintage lady.

Lovely fabric!
