Dating a couple of lingerie-style tops

Hello!
I'd love some help dating these two lingerie-style tops! The first is a white cotton eyelet top with elastic bottom, hooks and snaps up the front and a pink ribbon trim. The second is a very lightweight sheer cotton blouse with some lovely little clear plastic buttons. Neither have any tags or markings. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

It is not always possible to 100% sure from just a photo, but I am happy to give an opinion. The first one looks to be early 'Teens era, circa 1911 to 1914. It may have been altered at some point, (perhaps added or replaced the snaps, added elastic) and is very pretty with beautiful eyelet lace. These were often referred to as a camisole or corset cover.

The second I agree is on backwards on your dress form. Without touching the fabric, and the lace trim, I cannot really date it but the general look is very late 1940s to mid 1950's.

Thanks so much for the input! I've done a bit of research on corset covers and I think this one fits the bill with the elastic added at a later date. Also with the backwards '40s blouse, is there a word to describe the style of those buttons?

I'm not sure what you mean - I hope you don't mind me saying but from the pics, the buttons don't look anything special - either glass or plastic, I've seen them on a lot of blouses, mostly from the '50s so either Barbara is right or perhaps they were replacements or perhaps they were used for a while.

Perhaps if you show a better pic of the buttons and tell us what they're made of?

the button/back/front blouse looks more 70s revival to me..those short puffy sleeves~ look at that top buttonhole? and the sewing around the neckline? also, i recall wearing button-back blouses in the 70s.

does it look home sewn, by any chance? that neckline seam looks maybe like a home-ec project. and i know i used vintage notions and fabrics when i was sewing in the 70s...

btw, Nicole, she says in her intro that the buttons are plastic. :)

Thanks Mary! Good point about the '7os revival styles - you can see it's not very well made, and a bit sloppy for vintage so that points to more modern. Also that centre front seam on the lace bothers me: I wonder if it was made from broderie anglaise border lace rather than a panel? BA was big in the late '70s, around '77-78 and this style was popular then too.

Thanks for the input Mary and Nicole! The buttons are a heavy plastic, nothing particularly special, I just wasn't sure if there was a name for that style. I think that at the blouse was commercially made, there is a tiny fragment of a tag that has been way worn down inside and the bottom and sleeve seams are professional. The lace bib does look like it could have been added at a later date, the construction looks a bit sloppier than the rest of the blouse. Although there actually isn't a seam down the center of the lace, it's just one large wrinkle from lying folded. Would a photo of the interior construction help?
