This is the sweetest shantung Lemon meringue dress suit, I've seen in awhile.

It is Shantung silk, has no manufacturing labels; owner (hasn't got her memory) traveled in Europe as an assistant secretary to Eisenhower. Remember his 11 nation tour in 1959?
DETAILED NECK DESIGN, and oh yes, Crown metal zipper, says the tag, down the back.

So here's my question? is this custom? from a European design house? Or do one of you wonderful vtg WIZARDS, know the Year, MAKE & MODEL of this little beauty?
I have hated to ask you all so far but that's what this forum is for so.... HIT ME!

If the provenance is correct, I think this might be a suit that was made in one of the countries visited by the owner and I would narrow that down to India, Pakistan and Iran (Persia). It has a Crown zip but the fabric and the detailing has me thinking it is a one-off design. The label? Obscure isn't it.

I might uncover one of the buttons just to see if there is a clue there.

It isn't lined and I think that a European fashion house would probably have made the suit with a lining.

It's a lovely suit and that tail kick pleat is great.

Were they in Hong Kong? Hong Kong was known for turning out made to measure suits fast enough for someone who was in town for only a couple of days... just a thought...

It is indeed curious - it is a dress and matching jacket isn't it?

Short sleeves like that (on jackets) weren't in fashion very much, I can only think of the forties (too early for this outfit) and late 80s-early 90s. The construction does look fairly modern - I'm looking at the overlocking - but shantung was popular in the sixties, which matches the style of the dress. I think Jonathan's right: it looks Hong Kong or Asian made to me, which might explain the detailing.

One thing: if you place the jacket flat and match up the side seams, do the buttons match up with the button holes? I'm thinking that someone might have added the cord attachments when the jacket no longer fitted. The treatment looks like it might be a "make do". The label looks home made.

THE HELP

DeCoDiVa
wants to thank all those who stopped by to give advice and a look, with the help of the VTG wizards.. I think I am on the right path.:excited:
This is vintage (some year) and was retro altered and finished to accomidate the owners weight gain. I have 3 other pieces 2 suits and a dress in the same fabrics and variant colors.
