Dating a dress

Hi everyone!

I could really use your help dating this dress... It does have a metal zipper and is tafetta. I think it's 50s but I want to be sure.

And how the heck do I describe this dress? I'm at a loss! Is that considered a balloon hem skirt? Sorry, I don't have a pic of the back yet, but here is front and side.

Lovely late '50's dress - C. 1958. The skirt is called a bubble skirt.

That is nice! Sort of bubble, but not completely. Kind of a draped bubble, reminds me in a bit of panniers, although those are fuller at the hips and then narrow down, while this is reversed.

We had a similar dress recently and I think bell skirt was the word used - and I agree with Linn on dating. Great silhouette!
