Dating a dress

Doesn't this dress have the most darling color to it? I've been so curious about the age of this, I remember the shop that I purchased this from said it was from the 1950s but I can't help but think it's earlier than that. What do you guys think? Is this true 1950s? The fabric feels a bit "nylon-y" (I'm really bad at identifying fabrics) but I'm not exactly sure what it is, another question I have is how could I take the wrinkles out of it/repair its rips Is there some sort of mysterious technique someone knows about handling this type of beautiful yet, very delicate fabric?
It features:
-No brand or material tag
-Faded "Handy" buttons
- Metal side zipper
- "Cap" or shorter sleeves
-What appears to be a drop waist
- A slight "V" neckline
- Pleated skirt
- """Plasticy"""/"Nylony" feeling delicate fabric
Thanks!
Also... Does anyone know what this specific pattern is called? It's sort of plaid but not quite because inside the little plaid squares there are some smaller squares and the dress has some sort of beautiful shiny sheen to it, if that makes any sense?

It would be best to see it on a dress form, so we can determine the shape/length. However, I do think it is 1950s. The fabric is probably an acetate or acetate blend. That was very popular post WWII for dresses as it resembled silk in its luster, and often felt kind of "plastic-y" as you call it. Couold also be some nylon or rayon in there.

I do love the color!
