Dating A Fox Fur Collar / Scarf

Hi everyone,

A neighbor of mine has asked me to try and sell something for her, and since I don't know much about fur I have many questions.

1) Date?

2) I see many of these for sale online but they vary greatly in price. I assume there is a quality aspect to price. Is this a high quality piece? How could I tell?

3) Is there a technical term for this piece?

I really appreciate any help!

Hi there Vik, This collar design has been seen in multiple eras but the satin lining fabric has an iridescent look from fading that I have seen in 50s linings often so I would say this is 50s.
The fur type is called Norwegian Blue Fox which does have value but the amount of value is dependent on the condition, size, and wearability. The collar you have shown is a smaller piece that was previously attached to another piece of outerwear.
Someone purchasing this would buy it to add to another garment or repurpose in some way and would not pay as much as they would for a fox fur stole or coat that was larger and did not require repurposing to wear or use.
I also think that I see a hint of oxidation or yellowing in the fur. It looks minimal but that is a condition issue from being exposed to light over time and sometimes improper storage but in fox furs this age it's really just a matter of exposure.
