dating a pair of high heel pumps

Its a long story... Amalfi was a brand created in 1946 for Italian made shoes imported by New York company Marx & Newman. Originally it was a series of small shoemaking manufacturers along the Amalfi coast that supplied the shoes but eventually, a company by the name of Rangoni made all the shoes under the Amalfi label. Marx and Newman sold their importing business to the United States Shoe Corporation in 1962 and Rangoni continued to export shoes under the Amalfi label into the U.S.. There was a big battle over the name in 1985 and the end result was that because 'Amalfi' is a place you can't copyright or trademark a place name and the brand was no longer being made just by Rangoni. Now, whether your shoes, which are marked Rangoni Amalfi represent the period just before, when Rangoni was the only maker of the Amalfi brand, or afterwards, when they are trying to identify the Amalfi brand by Rangoni rather than USSC, I don't know. However, I would date the shoes as early 80s (triangular heel and garnet suede are c. 1980ish although that heel survives into the mid 80s), so that would predate the shoes before the lawsuit.

That is so amazing that you were able to find all of that out! Many many thanks for looking into that for me.

Yet again I am absolutely astounded over what an amazing resource this site is and the people in it!
