dating a R.H. Macys silk slip for label resource

Hello All,
I found this slip (it's really really 'tall'!) that luckily was holding onto it's label, literally by a thread....it initially struck me as 1940s but the label resource doesn't have this label. Forgive the zillion photos, I shot these quickly and didn't seem to capture much detail, so thought I'd throw it all in in pieces...my camera work is not the greatest yet.
Thanks again,
, Lauren

Thanks Linn, They are 'pretty' low maintenance.
Would this have been for a very tall woman or were they worn very long?

Bias cut garments stretch sideways when they are on the body, clinging to the bust and hips then flaring out. They seem very very long hanging but accomodate several sizes - within reason.

@ Linn/Tabby: So, what distinguishes it as a nightgown?
@Marian: Interesting, I wondered about that as it 'moves and morphs' (for lack of better words) when you hold it at different places.

A slip is cut differently from a nightgown, and is meant to be worn under a garment.

This is 1930's slip; on the right is a full length slip meant to be worn under a matching dress.

I agree with Linn in that a slip is cut differently - also, nightgowns are designed to be worn by themselves (and be alluring) so they're usually sexier, with more decorative features - also, you don't get sashes on slips as they would interfere with how the dress sits.

I agree that you have a '30s nightdress. These are beautiful and sometimes worn by modern brides when in good condition.
