Dating a Velvet dress

I am a bit clueless about this dress.
It might be 40s/50s? no shoulder pads.

That print and the cut of the sleeves reminds me of the 70s. I'm sure others will be along.

Lovely. I had a blazer in the mid 1970s made of a very similar, if not exact same, velveteen fabric. Same print and same colors.

Just to say I agree, I have several 70s suits (waistcoat/skirt, and jacket/skirt sets) made from similar print velvet fabric.

This dress puzzled me for a while. Sleeves kind like pre 60s, the deep v neckline and maxi dress style is 70s style, and the dark velvet print reminded me of 90s.
I thought to myself, "What are you?" lol

It's the very distinctive fabric that gives this one away - and I agree with Susan that it's probably a dressing gown or hostess robe.
