Dating an old greatcoat

Hi everyone

First post here but I have had a label published in the past - look at the label resource under Maggy Rouff and the very last label is from a 1960s vintage men's velvet jacket that I once owned.

My dilemma concerns a greatcoat that has just come into my possession. I got if from a lady in her 80s, she claimed it was owned by her late husband's grandfather and suggested a date of around 1880. There is no maker's label inside the coat pocket, as would be expected to be found in a bespoke item but there's no denying that it is bespoke. Other features I have never seen before include the outside ticket pocket that lies under the coat when buttoned the "right" way and is exposed when buttoned the "wrong" way round. The coat lining is unusual too: the upper body and sleeves are lined in grey bemberg, while the lower body has been lined in a grey glen plaid worsted.

If further close-up photographs of buttonholes, stitching etc are required, please let me know and I'll get them uploaded.

Thanks in anticipation

Just a little update: I took the coat to a lady who does invisible mending to get some small moth damage repaired and we discovered that the bemberg lining is an added afterthought. My conclusion was the gentleman who owned it found the worsted lining a bit too itchy, so had the upper body lined on top of the worsted.
