Hi everyone!
I sourced this lovely silk, pearl and beaded wedding gown with veil, stockings and shoes.
I was told it was from 1897....but the shape to me looks 20's.
Any and all help is appreciated!
Could be 1918-19, but not 1897! It's early 20s, pre 1925 I would think. Very pretty, too. You may want to check - usually the closure is on the left, although there are exceptions. That would place the bow at the back, which is more likely. What does the other side look like?
I agree with Hollis, the shoes are certainly good for late teens to 20's. The metal threads in the fabric oxidise over time and darken. They would have shone silver or gold when they were new.
Here is the picture of the "back"....haha!
I know that the hooks go on the other side, but I wasn't sure if it was from the 1800's if maybe they did it up different..hehe!
A hint I've learned on these forums, is to check which way the placket is facing, as that will determine which way round it was meant to be. Eg, when the fastening is done up, the opening should face towards the back, so it's less visible from the front.
I think it was Nicole who first mentioned this. It's obvious when you think about it, but I wouldn't have put 2 and 2 together. Certainly helps determine when those exceptions have been made and the opening is on the other side.
That makes total sense Ruth! Thanks for the tip on the opening direction.
And thank you Hollis and Melanie for all your expertise on the age of this beauty!
