Dating Christian Dior London beaded dress

Pleas help I have been given a beaded dress that appears to be Dior. I do not want to modify it if it's a genuine vintage dress, the lining and hems are hand finished, the beading is hand beaded and intricate. Thank you

Hi, The label itself dates to the late 50s/early 60s but the label looks like it's being secured to the dress with a pin. The length could possibly fit late 50s or more likely the early 60s. Many dresses were beaded during that time and the construction sounds right for that time as well. Does the dress have a zipper with metal teeth? Could you possibly show some photos of the inside and interior construction?

Here is the link to the Christian Dior portion of our label resource section where you can find a similar label to the one in your dress.

The label is different than the one in our VFG Label Resource. I cannot tell the length of your dress as the photo is taken from a skewed angle, but it looks much too short for early 1960s (to me). Certainly too short for the 1950s. The way it is beaded, the size of the beads, and length of the skirt lead me to think this is mid to late 1960s. Best to find that exact label on a Dior dress or garment and go from there, to be more sure.

By the way, how long is the skirt, measured from the waist seam? Are the beads all glass, and is each one sewn on individually or are they appliques?

I too was thinking it was most likely too short for the 50s. The label we have in our VFG label resource that is most similar dates to the late 50s/early 60s but there is currently a dress being offered as an early 60s Christian Dior dress at Paulette-London that appears to have the same label as yours. The style of the dress is actually quite different and much longer but here is the link to the where the dress and label can be seen.

The beading is not applique it is individual beads, I have taken a photo of inside, which shows the stitching. The centre back waist to hem is 58cm. The colour is more royal blue in daylight. Possibly could have been shortened the hem has been very neatly hand sewn and the back and side seams at hem are not flat open but to one side. This is the first Dior I have seen so unsure what to expect in finishing but as a avid dressmaker my impression is quality fabric and lining and hand finished.
|The Label has come away but was glued? rust orange type gum.

|Just one label first images taken using phone 2nd using camera it has come away from the centre back seam

I am not a seamstress. but the dress looks as if significantly altered. The inside finishing is sort of slap dash looking, if you know what I mean. The shoulder straps, the zipper, the hem, and more....just does not look the quality of finishing for a Dior boutique garment. While your lovely dress is not Haute Couture, one would expect to see better workmanship. I do see the fabric and beading as fine quality however. It is possible that the label may have been removed and then put back after the alteration, but the glue is odd. Dior hats from that time could sometime have glued labels, but I have never seen glued labels on a garment.

It is very pretty, whatever you find out about it.

In my opinion, you should take this to an expert who can see and handle it in person.I know you probably just took snapshots for now, but it doesn't help that your pictures are not the greatest, no offense. I think people here err on the side of caution, which makes sense.

Since your garment is potentially worth a good deal of money, it may be worth the investment to have it appraised.

It's a beautiful dress! You are lucky to have found it.
