Dating Dupont Orlon Acrylic

Hi CarlaSure, Orlon acrylic was developed in 1941. You can find some information about it in our fabric resource section under acrylic. Here's the link;

I don't think I have seen Orlon marked on too many 40s labels but I have seen Orlon marked on many 50s and 60s labels. The WPL number on the label would have been issued to Dupont sometime between 1941-1959 and it can help determine when the number was issued to Dupont but it could not help to determine the date of the sweater because once issued Dupont would have been able to use the same number over and over in different garments for as long as they were in business and they are still in business today.
If you show photos of your sweater we may be able to tell you if we agree that it's early 60s or if we think it's from another time.
