Dating/Fabric Help With Men\'s Blazer

hi there,

I picked up this vintage (?) men's blazer. It seems very "smoking jacket"-inspired.

Not sure what era this label may be from (Amalgam ?).

also, it seems like it may be a "nubby silk" ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...as always.

thanks !
Connie

Hard to tell from the photos but it could be raw silk. The label you had i have not seen in clothing after about 1970, and not before 1948/9 but will have to look at the link that was posted to see what it says. harder with half a tag though.

Okay - the link above isn't working but you can see it here.

As Patent mentioned, the label is no more recent than 1976. I think I was thrown off by the fact it looks very oversized with big shoulder pads (and hence '80s) because it's displayed on a small female mannequin - it probably looks like the right proportion on a man. Anyway - the shawl collar was popular in the late '40s-mid '60s, I've seen similar braid used in mens formal suits of the '60s and the fabric looks like silk shantung: again, popular in the '60s. So all in all, I'm going to date it as early '60s. Nice lining!

It's a pity there are no other labels - '60s tailoring labels are quite distinctive.

I could also be a rayon blend "doing" a shantung like fabric. This looks more like a rayon to me but it's hard to tell without feeling it.

If you can find a loose thread do a burn test (silk smells like hair buring, crisp ash and rayon smells like paper leaves very little ash)

That straight unshaped body looks 60s to me but I'm no expert on menswear.
