Tough to date the sweater because the style continued for decades, although red and blue details are the norm. Let me ask you: How do you know it was hand made? And, are the sleeves full length or cropped?

It does look hand knit to me. I'm not seeing machine knitting, and the seams look right for hand made, if a little chunkily done. But to double check, are the seams hand sewn, with yarn, and or machine stitched with thread, or chain stitched? Knowing how the neckband is attached to the body, would also help. In hand knit sweater, it would be knitted on, rather than machined, which is what this looks like, but I can't quite see. (I love it when my knitting knowledge comes into play on these forums :) )

It's nearly impossible to date hand knits, especially in such a classic style. If it's acrylic or an acrylic blend, that rules out a very early date, makes it more likely to be post 1960s. But it could have been made anytime since this style was worn. Last week or decades ago.

Can you tell the fibre content?
