I think it might be earlier - Edwardian, late 'teens.....it's beautiful. Are all the fabrics natural (ie, wool, silk lining, cotton velvet)?

The buttons on the front are amazing! They look to be shell in the centers? What does the rest of the button appear to be made of?

Beautiful! Without looking through my books (actually, I should be in bed already...), my first thought was late teens too. Something about the overall shape and that asymetric closure.

Teen's is what I was thinking, but I seriously needed the confirmation! Do you think this one is from the same time frame? This one is a black faille with a shiney, silky cotton lining. The buttons on the front have all be removed so I just pinned it closed for the pic.

Thanks again guys! I went to find it to answer your questions, and I can't remember where I put it just now. Nicole, from what I could tell offhand, the exterior is made of natural materials, cotton velvet on the trim and and a wool body, but I'm not sure about the lining. Foofoogal, that is what I found confusing too. OK, it just took me 15 min to find it. I can be an idiot sometimes! Carrie, the buttons have what I thought was a thin metal disc at the center, but after looking, I think it is a gold tone plastic with a slight shimmeriness, surrounded by some type of slightly heavy black plastic. I think the buttons look smashing on it, and work very well with it, so I assumed they were original. Do you guys think they are maybe later updates?
Mary Jane, what do you mean by a bit earlier? Early teens instead of late?
