I recently found a dress made by Miss Elliette of California. Doing some google, ebay, and etsy searches I have found dates ranging from the 50s to the 80s- but I don't think most of these sellers really know much about it and are just guessing. I was almost convinced by the all the people who claimed dresses similar to mine were from the 70s, but the style seems more 60s to me and there is a metal zipper. What are the guidelines for metal zippers? Anyone have any thoughts on this dress? Thanks so much!

p.s. sorry I can't figure out how to use the attachment function, for some reason the photo just doesn't upload!

A 1968 article I found about Miss Elliette noted that:

"Miss Elliette, as she is known in the trade, provides her customers with enough yards of floating chiffon, ruffles and sequins to satisfy the most sentimentally romantic of tastes."

I'd say your fun dress has "enough yards of floating chiffon (and) ruffles" to place it in the late 1960s.

Wow, what a coincidence! I have a Miss Elliette of California dress too! I bought it over 10 years ago at vintage shop London, and it has a metal zip. The seams are threaded with clear nylon thread, so that the ruches "stand" a bit at the bottom. I would have said it was from the 70s. I bought it just for fun - I had to take it in a bit and shorten it a bit - I wore it to a fancy-dress party, where I went dressed up as Barbie doll.
Here's a photo - it's pretty old an pretty bad though...

So happy to see this dress. I've been on a Miss Elliette jag of late, and most recently unearthed this yellow one:

Late 60's to early 70's I believe, and right in the same time frame as yours; must be!

It's just so nice, after having had this dress in my closet for so long, and never having given much thought to the name on the label (but it stuck in my mind anyway), to see other pieces by the same company, and see that they all seem to have a signature style.

Wow, I love this one too (btw - your yellow one is gorgeous too!). I think I'm a fan of Miss Elliette :clapping:.
As I said, I wore my dress as a Barbie doll costume to a fancy-dress ball - I actually won the first prize for the best costume. I saw it in the shop and it just spelled "Barbie" to me.
