So I am very confused and torn about this dress's dating, it seems to have so many features of multiple eras and styles do repeat every 30 to 40 years.
So i am at a loss. I found it at an antique shop. I was drawn to it bc all the sequins and beading were hand sewn and the mesh see through area looked unlike the stuff youd see in later dresses it seems like thick nylon like old 40s nylons not elastic
So one my friends said oh thats 80s look at the shoulders. But i dont necessarily agree. I asked the antique shop owner and she said it was possibly homemade in the 1960s- 70s
This dresses construction seems to be too old to be from the 80s the zipper the mesh material the beads but I could be wrong. I would expect an 80s homemade garment to have a higher quality to it and shorter in length
So I wanted some of your expert opinions
Here are the features
Backless with boning on sides
Metal zipper that is short on low center back
Handsewn
Thick satin material
Puffed sleeves no pads and long
The skirt portion is long but its like a wiggle style. It probably would hit mid calf or a bit longer
The mesh is not stretchy at all
Beads look older but i have not tested them
