This is quite interesting, the designer Jim Thompson started the Thai Silk Company in 1951 and dissappeared in 1968 from Malaysia. Any ideas if they would continue to use his label after this period or should I safely assume it falls inbetween? (all info from Wikipedia, Thai Silk company website confirms)

The Jim Thompson name survived well after he disappeared. I recently sold a cotton dress with his name on the label from the 80s. But I don't know when it was stopped, or if they still make labels with his name on them....

As an aside, I read a fiction novel a couple of years ago that I'm just about 100% positive is based on him. I'll have to see if I can hunt it up.

There was a story in 2010 that somebody had solved his disappearance on the basis of some bone fragments that were found.

In that case, where would you date this dress?

the waist is flat front and back and elasticated at the sides, I think there are pockets either side of the front that are distorting the shape a bit.

The Jim Thompson company is still going strong and they have quite a few shops across the world, I visited the Jim Thompson house and shop myself when I went to Bangkok. They make very high quality items that are rather pricey! If you ever go to Bangkok I highely recommend visiting its very interesting!

I would agree with the dating of this dress, looks mid 80's to me too.
