Dating Neiman Marcus (mink?) hat!!!

My mother-in-law came across 3 vintage hats during a move recently and I've volunteered to help her find out info on them. This is a dark black (very soft) fur hat with a Neiman Marcus tag that, from what I can tell, dates 1950's. It has an original paper tag as well. The netting looks very fragile and I'm afraid to touch it. It has a matching simple hat pin on one side that does not show in the photos. I'm curious if this is mink and what the value is. Your lovely vintage hat is not mink, and technically it is not a fur hat at all. That is, it is made of fur-felt, not animal hide. They treat the felt to create a furry nap (raised surface), similar to beaver. It may be made of a combination of fur fibers, such as rabbit, beaver, nutria or other small critters.

Looks mid to late 1950s era to me.

I really like that hat! It's the sort of style I buy for myself on those rare occasions when I treat myself to a "new" vintage hat! I like the longer-napped fur felts like yours--they look and feel so nice....
