Dating Novelty Stockings

I acquired these gorgeous stockings at an estate sale and was curious to find out more about them. I assumed they might be 50s as they need a garter belt to stay up, but I'm wondering if they may be from a different decade. They don't have a label and the design appears to be made of a "felted" type material. Any help is most appreciated!

I think garter belts were still quite common throughout the 60s.

They look like mesh stockings vs flat. Mesh are somewhat coarse.....flat are silky, shiny and smooth. I wore stockings with designs on the sides in the 60s and we still used garters to hold them up.

They are very long, which suggests to me they are intended for shorter skirts - c. 1965/66

Thank you for the information - this is very helpful! Does this seem like a fairly common design? I have seen a few pairs of novelty stocking designs before, but none that looked like this one...
