Dating Purple Velvet Coat and Fur ID

Hello! Just wanting to confirm my thoughts of 20s (?) for a date on this velvet coat? I'm also having trouble identifying the fur on the collar. There are no labels or closures. There are "handles" on the inside - I presume for holding the coat closed. Thanks for any help!

I do agree with the dating and the appearance of the fur looks like chinchilla however I do not see the darker shading that is normally seen in chinchilla.

Wild chinchilla is endangered wherever it is found and cannot be commercially traded without permitting. Ranched chinchilla is still allowed to be commercially traded within the US.

What does the fur feel like?

It's very soft and has fairly short hairs. It's the most soft in the middle of the back. It becomes a little more "textured" towards the edges, but I'm not sure if that's just the condition of the fur? It does have some black in in but mostly under the white. There is also a little light brown here and there. I don't feel like I'm describing it very well...

Thank you for that information and for those photos. Based on what's been shared I do not believe it is chinchilla. There is a possibility that it could be chinchilla rex rabbit which is bred and raised to look like chinchilla but I would need to touch it to be certain. Being there is some resemblance though let me provide you with some more information about chinchilla.

Chinchilla feels unlike any other fur to me. It is very soft but it feels very airy, lightweight, and similar to what this flower feels like when you blow it.

Aside from the sea otter it has the most dense fur out of any animal. We people have one hair that grows out of each of our follicles. Chinchilla has about 60 fur strands that grow out of a one of their follicles. Chinchilla skin is also very thin.

I went and took some photos of a collar on a 60s Persian lamb jacket I have to further describe it and give more of a visualization.

A video would have shown this better but this is just a picture of a moment when I blew on the fur.

Here's a close up photo of the fur. The fur has no clumping.

The fur's not incredibly long like fox fur but it's long enough for me to immerse my finger tips into it.

Here's a full view of the back of the collar. There is a portion of a pelt that does not show dark black coloration but there is plenty of black coloration throughout the rest and this is usually always present in chinchilla fur garments.
