Dating Scarf with (mink?) tail ends

Hello Everyone!
Your expertise is needed yet again! I was wondering if you can help me date this scarf. I believe those are mink tails on the ends. I'm new to this, so I had never seen anything like this before. I've seen fur shawls or stoles with tail ends but never a fabric scarf. I haven't been very successful in locating similar styles online. The ones that I did find that were remotely similar happened to be from the 60s. Could this be 60s as well? The fabric feel like velvet almost. My mother thinks it could be polyester.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
LARA

These were big in the mid-late 80s. Like around 86-88 I was knitting long scarves for this lady who'd attach fur pieces to them. Then sold them for big bucks in Bloomies.

That's so interesting. I would've never guessed 80s/90s. I'm surprised I haven't found a single one like this online.

In the early part of the trend they were sold all over NYC... high end shops in Soho and Bloomies. Then toward the end of the trend you were seeing them being sold on Canal Street and flea markets.

If you've ever watched the Fresh Prince of Bell-Air it's very much something the mother or older daughter would have worn!!

Hi,

I remember that trend, but all the ones I saw in the NY shops had big fox fur tails or ends, wolf, sheep/goat or other type of fur, I never saw any with mink like that. And if they used mink why would they use polyester printed leopard? That looks weird to me, but oh well. I think perhaps, (without touching or seeing it in person) that it is earlier, maybe 60's, with the mink tails and what looks to be glass beads. Maybe it had a matching cape or coat/jacket. the printed pattern just does not look 80s to me, it looks 60s or 70s, as does the mink tails and beads.

I had a similar scarf that I bought in 2004, it didn't have fur ends but of course, you could always add them. I agree that yours is fairly modern. The mink tails with the beads (?) could be older.

I actually thought it was strange too that they would attach mink tails to a polyester (at least that's what I think the fabric is) scarf. The beads are actually metal not glass if that makes any difference. Now that you mention it Barbara, I'm starting to recall scarves with some kind of tail of other fur end. I agree with you in that I've never seen mink tails like this. I'm so clueless about this piece that I feel as though it could just as easily be 80s/90s as it could be 60s/70s.
