dating sheer mesh "metal" dress-art deco ?

Looks like perhaps someone turned an assuit shawl into a dress?

That's exactly what it is - an Egyptian assuit shawl that has been turned into a dress. However, this one is not from the 20s. THe twenties dresses made from assuit shawls are made from two identical shawls sewn together, whereas this one is one shawl folded in half and sewn up the sides with a slit cut out for the head to go through. I think this one is a later creation - maybe 60s/70s, or even 80s/90s. They are still making these shawls so it could even be brand new.

thanks SO much for the information

the mesh and design are both very similar to the ones currently listed on ebay as 20's vintage

fyi - the seams are all finished nicely and this was created very well, however, it doesn't "feel" new at all

maybe I'll just place it in the "other vintage" category - seems I'd get the proper money for it if I could narrow down exactly when it was made

THANKS AGAIN

Connie, you might like to try it under the '20s category as well - it's great that you make it clear about it not being a 20s dress but if you put it there, you'll catch the enthusiasts.

good luck! It's an amazing piece, and I like that you've researched assuit too. I have a picture of an original 20 dress on my website:
