So, I think its 'St. Michel' with a stylized 'S" but not sure and the font is 60's 70s to me, but the shoe seems more recent...not sure what I'm looking at here...thanks for any help.

I think you have a 1980s-early 90's shoe in a 60's style. I think St Michel is likely to be a spanish or portuguese brand (name based on the saint, both are quite religious countries), which would match with the european sizing.

Thanks Melanie....would you call these a 'heeled loafer' (is there such an oxymoron?) or I keep thinking Ben Franklin and Pilgrim/ Quaker....?

I wouldn't call it a loafer, which brings up a different (more casual) style of shoe in most people's mind's, but I might go for pilgrim court shoes or pumps. Although it's not a buckle, that's the look it's going for.
