Dating this and any ideas of its purpose?

Costume? Ethnic? Age? I thought it was fun but have no idea. The skirt is very full and snaps and hooks closed, alms or wrap style. The bodice is also floor length with an open back that ties as shown (I think) and has that shiny chest plate looking thing. Thanks for any ideas!

Could that double banded piece go lower down on the dress. It looks odd where it's placed right now.
That is one spacey looking top to it. Intriguing!

I am thinking along the same lines as Jonathan. It reminds me of Flash Gordon. Some Sci-fi goddess or space siren costume?

thanks guys! yeah, I don't know what to think! it definitely is old, the fabric and lining and smell (haha) indicate as much. Such fun! I wish it fit me
